Pig of the Month
This month's pig of the month is..... Gwen! Below is a little bit of information about her, so read on to find out all about our Pig of the Month for February!!
*Gwen is about two years old, and is a similar age to Holly, last month's Pig of the Month.
*Like all of our other guinea pigs, we rehomed Gwen from the RSPCA.
*Gwen is the proud mum of Tiggy, Sooty and Mousey Brown. Her babies were born on the fifth of January, 2009. We didn't realise Gwen was going to have babies until they were actually born, because the RSPCA home we got her from were unaware of it themselves! Before they had rescued her from her previous owner, she had given birth to two or three litters already, and the people she lived with didn't take her baby boys away from her when they were three weeks old.
Because she had had so many babies, Gwen was very underweight when we got her, and as her babies got bigger inside her, we thought it was her getting fatter because she was eating well! The day before the babies were born, I was cuddling her, and I could feel four little lumps inside her - her babies! No-one else belived that she was pregnant, so it came as a shock the next morning when I went to feed them, and there were four extra bundles of fluff! Sadly, on of her babies, Ruby, died when she was just three months old.

Pig of the Month
This month's pig of the month is..... Holly! Below is a little bit of information about her, so congratulations to Holly for being the first Pig of the Month 2010!
* Holly is one of our oldest pigs here at Out of the Hutch - she's around two years old. We got her when she was around one, so we've had her for just over a year!
* Holly was a mum before we got her.
* She is a extremely shy - she will only come out from the hut when I am very quiet or not there at all! As soon as I reappear or make a sound, she runs and hides. She is becoming more friendly and less shy gradually, and she now enjoys having a cuddle with me!
* As you can see from the photograph above, Holly is the largest guinea pig we have! She is cream and white with scruffy hair. She also has red albino eyes.
So now you know all about Holly! Visit us again next month to see who will be the next Pig of the Month!
Popcorning Pigs!!!
Ok, ok, this may sound random, but guinea pigs POPCORN when they are excited or happy! I quite often go out to see my guineas, and find them jumping around like mad things. So, I looked it up on the internet, and found that some people were calling it popcorning, and it meant they were happy! They call it popcorning because they jump like corn when it is popping!!

Guineas in the Cold...
Hello!
In this snowy weather, it's important that guineas have loads of hay to keep them nice and toasty! Also, check thir water every so often in case it has frozen solid. Warm up (but not boil) some water in the kettle, and stand back while your piggies rush for the warm wather! It isn't harsh on their tummies as cold water would be at these low temperatures!
